Hey what's up. I found your site in the VB.com listings. I was actually looking for some PHP/MYSQL help. So Im hoping this is the spot. Just wanted to drop in and say hello, and wll Im off to post my first question.

Well hopefully we can help you! Glad to have you on board.

I just made me an account and added this place to my list, so I'll be trolling around. I'm afraid I've gotten lazily specialized, I'm not so good at anything but Perl anymore these days. I'm fighting the temptation to jump in and post something there just to say I was the first when this site gets popular, but I can't think of anything truly notworthy and topicful to put there.
I wrote a little thing in C++ tonight, first time I touched that language in over a year. Also noticed that you don't have a C/C++ forum, either. I guess it's not as popular these days, but I'm sure it gets more use than Python for crying out loud (my hatred of python stems from my college's python teaching having a hatred of perl). :)
While I'm suggesting things in the non-suggestion forum, operating system topics? With this place's current excessive traffic, a simple Windows and *nix set would probably do. Hell, right now none seem to be doing just fine. Why am I still awake? I'm going to bed.
Oh, and I don't dig having to click something before I can use the quick reply box. I haven't poked it much, but what's the advantage to that over just enabling it by default?

In this version of vBulletin they have 3 different views. The first one is the Linear view which is the normal view that always existed. The next two are hybrid and threaded, both of these require extra information like which actual post you are replying to while threaded does not.
If a person was able to just use the quick reply box without saying which actual post they are replying to then the second two views (hybrid and threaded) would not work correct and they would end up looking just like the linear view.
I do agree that it kinda sucks to have to click on something to reply but knowing that information it makes sense.
Also thanks for your other suggestions and you are more than welcome to be the first post in the perl forum :)

Thank you, even the stupidest of things can be easily tolerated knowing there's a greater purpose for them, even if I never intend to use it.
And now, with admin consent... :D

About the C forum, have you ever used/seen C# ? It really has no resemblence at all to C or even C++. It looks almost exactly like Java. If you want to have a forum for it, make a .NET forum for it, VB.NET (which looks exactly the same as C#, declarations aside), and the entire .NET framework and IDE.
Really, I don't think a .NET forum would get enough traffic to warrant its creation. It isn't like the other open technologies here, wouldn't really fit in. I'd just drop the C# from the description. It doesn't share anything with C other than part of its name.
And this isn't Microsoft bashing, I used C# with .NET once and almost even enjoyed it, but it was very different from everything I'd worked with prior.

Yes very true C# should go in a .NET forum but I will not create one of them on this site :-P

Jerkie I set you as a moderator and I am allowing moderators to change their title so you should be able to go into your control pannel and change your title. Give it a shot and let me know if it works. The link is on the top right... it is called "user cp".

Slappy

thanks for the welcome
md_doc
you washed your car and you did not wash mine or change my oil you bastard!
I think I might change my oil tomorrow... maybe wash it too if it is not cold out.
TekVex
Boy, I wish we did have some cold weather.
md_doc
well the 40's are a little too low. I ended up getting outside where I was in the shade so I only vacuumed the car, no oil change or wash :(.
Today I am going to go golfing at like noon so gotta get a ton done before that... maybe around Thanksgiving it will be a bit warmer so I can do the oil and wash the car though.
I could live with some nice warm weather for a little while :) Want to trade TekVex?

It's gonna be down around 20 tonight in Tennessee, and I co-own a 1978 International Scout that's 80 miles north of me with its other owners, and it doesn't have any anti-freeze. :( This happened last year, too (we just forgot), but it only blew a freeze plug that we replaced in spring. We just had the radiator rebuilt, and there wasn't much of it left, combined with the fact that freeze plugs are far from guaranteed safety nets...it's gotta happen tonight. Problem is I'm not up there to help. There's no drain plug so a hose has to be pulled, but the guy up there doesn't have his tools with him, either, on top of the fact that it's already below freezing. Ugh, I'll be praying for my baby tonight...
md_doc
Hopefully it lasted though the cold, let us know what happened.
